We have helped many patients in Arlington, WA year after year who were suffering with back pain, and some of those individuals had been diagnosed with a bulging disc. Previous research has demonstrated that chiropractic adjustments can be an excellent way to relieve the pain of disc herniation in the low back and other research has shown that it can relieve herniations in the cervical spine, too.
Now a recently-published case report improves our knowledge of the benefits of chiropractic for disc herniations. This study examines a 45-year-old woman who had a 2-year history of "chronic mild low back pain and right buttock pain." The individual described a worsening of the radicular pain down her right leg, and also reported occasional tingling in her right foot. These are all signs of neurological complications, and are serious symptoms.
The woman sought help from a chiropractor, who managed the patient with chiropractic adjustments and "advanced myofascial release therapy." The care consisted of 2 weeks of adjustments and an additional month of exercise and rehab.
The patient reported a "significant improvement in her low back pain and radiculopathy. In addition, she achieved some improvement in balance."
This article confirms what we see in our Arlington, WA office: chiropractic care is great for decreasing the discomfort of disc herniations without pills or risky surgical treatment.
